On January 20, a meeting of the staff on the occasion of the Dean's report on the work of the structural unit for the year 2022 took place at the Faculty FPSC of SumDU - a summary of achievements and losses, disappointments, and hopes. Hope, primarily, for the victory!
The event began with a pleasant mission entrusted to the First Vice-rector of SumDU, Serhii Lieonov - awarding diplomas to the competition winners, "The best teacher in students' eyes". A total of eight lecturers of the Faculty received diplomas: Olha Sydorenko, Inna Sypchenko, Stanislava Zaitseva, Raisa Stoian, Olena Sushkova, Inna Havryliuk, Nataliia Dudchenko.
- It is delightful to hold such a significant pile of diplomas. This means that the Faculty is actively working, and our most important stakeholders - students, positively evaluate the work, Serhii Lieonov noted.
The Dean of the Faculty traditionally began the report for 2022 with an analysis of the formation concerning the contingent. Unfortunately, the number of entrants to bachelor's programmes has significantly decreased this academic year. Still, we are observing a significant increase in the number of master's students - this year's number of entrants is 110% higher than last year's.
There is also a positive trend in working with graduate students. Currently, the Faculty has three permanent postgraduate courses attended by 43 people. This year, 19 graduate students were enrolled.
In the reporting year, for the first time at the Faculty, one-time councils were created for the Ph.D. candidates defending, and for the first time in SumDU, graduate students majoring in 06 Journalism with the specialty 061 Journalism defended their dissertations. A new page of our activity has begun. Defenses in philology and philosophy are next.
A positive trend at the Faculty is the increasing interest of lecturers in various international programmes. Local and all-Ukrainian media, civil society institutions, and state institutions, as experts on some significant issues of Ukraine's modern development, invite representatives of various departments of the Faculty. Thanks to cooperation with creative organizations and unions, the Faculty implemented two significant projects: "Greetings from Ukraine" and "War through a student lens".
Among the scientific achievements of last year, Olena Sushkova noted the successful implementation of the scientific direction "Humanities and Art" for the second year in a row. In addition, the departments of the Faculty implemented such significant scientific projects as grants from the European Union under the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet programmes (The Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens and The Department of Germanic Philology), "PDD support of the information center to provide information about NATO...", "Institutional support of the Center for Regional Security Studies" and "Sustainable development of the Center for Social Research of Sumy State University" (The Department of PPSST).
During the year, students were pleased with their achievements in various international and all-Ukrainian scientific, creative, and artistic competitions and Olympiads. There are many examples of such achievements. And this is the component that favourably distinguishes the Faculty FPSC at Sumy University.
Despite the crisis conditions under which the academic process took place in 2022, the Faculty FPSC has stable indicators of international academic mobility of the student contingent, postgraduate students, and teaching staff. In total, 13 international grant programmes have been implemented or are being implemented at the Faculty: all departments, without exception, are involved here. Two lecturers have grants for annual research in foreign centers.
- The year, no matter how difficult, has passed. And somehow, 2023 started so quickly that you don't want to regret the twenty-second. Let it go faster with its too stretched February 24. Indeed, let us bequeath experience. We thank him for that too. And our traditional thing is to keep our fingers crossed. After all, success honours the persistent, Olena Sushkova concluded her speech.
The heads of departments of the Faculty, Nataliia Tatsenko, Iryna Kobyakova, Olha Sydorenko, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, Nina Svitailo, as well as the Vice Dean for Extracurricular Activities, Anna Zinchenko spoke about their vision of this year's achievements and challenges, about future work. All of them positively assessed the Dean's work in 2022.
