On September 21, the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, celebrated a triple holiday – the International Day of Peace, International Thanksgiving Day, and Freshmen's day at the department.

The event took place in a mixed format. The majority of the ZhT-21 group, lecturers, and guests gathered in the audience on the 11th floor, and the other part had an opportunity to join the event online.

For this year's freshmen, this celebration was the first chance to meet each other, see their lecturers live, ask questions to the experienced students, and discuss the profession's subtleties with the graduates.

The wartime happening in our country today left a mark on the topic of this year's Freshmen's day. Guests included Oleksandra Sysa, a graduate of the department, an employee of the press service of the Sumy Regional Territorial Center of Completion and Social Support, and Oleksandr Bondarenko, a head of the press service of the operational-tactical group "Sumy". Another graduate of the department, and now the officer of the public relations service of the Operational Command "North" Svitlana Khalimonenko, sent her video greetings to the freshers.

However, military journalism was not the only topic of discussion. The first-year students were also curious about the peculiarities of the study process, the secrets of passing the session successfully, and ideas about lecturers. They were pleased to listen to advice and recommendations on future student and professional life.

"I wish you to make mistakes! It implies that you are willing to make progress. But at the same time, I want you to deal with these mistakes and never make them again!", said the curator of the first-year students, Olena Bondarenko.

The tradition originated at the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, wasn't left behind: first-year students wrote letters to their future selves, the graduates of 2026.

"This year's intake is vital for the Faculty. We are pleased that, despite the war, Ukrainian applicants prefer our university, and #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy will make every effort to ensure that they will never regret their choices", concluded the dean of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, Olena Sushkova.
