During May-June, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU,  Tetiana Kovalova took part in a training course for lecturers of faculties and departments of journalism of Ukrainian universities «Journalism in wartime conditions».

The work was carried out within the project «Improving the quality of training of young journalists of Ukraine», which is being implemented with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic and the Czech public organization «Association for International Affairs». The course consisted of two parts – online trainings and an educational trip to Prague, where the participants had an opportunity to get acquainted with the specifics of the Czech media work.

The online training programme was interesting and intense. The editor of the website, investigative journalist, media trainer Natalia Onysko spoke about the features of the anti-corruption website "Nashi hroshi. Lviv" under martial law. During the training, the participants dealt with the methodology of collecting and publishing information about the Russian military, studied the specifics of the investigation of war crimes.

Yuliia Dukach, PhD in Sociological Sciences, Analyst of the Disinformation Monitoring Group Texty.org.ua offered effective tools to combat disinformation in new media and social networks and messengers.

New media in a new reality: OSINT and data analysis – the subject of the training from a data journalist Texty.org.ua, media trainer of the training programmes «Data Analytics and visualization», «Working with open data», «Monitoring and evaluation» Denys Hubashov. The emphasis is on the latest sources of information for journalists in the context of changes.

During their stay in Prague, the lecturers of the HEI of Ukraine had the opportunity to communicate with practicing Czech journalists who shared the zests of working in professions. The educational trip began with a constructive meeting with the Executive Director of the Association for International Affairs Vít Dostál, an expert of the Analytical Center «European Values» David Stulík and Coordinator of iternational projects of AMO in Ukraine Zdenka Vágnerová. The most important topics of discussion were the war in Ukraine, world support for Ukrainians, as well as the role and place of journalists in the fight against Russian attackers and against Russian propaganda.

The features of military journalism were discussed in particular with the director of the Ukrainian editorial office of «Radio Svoboda», Mariana Drach. Also, guests from Ukraine took part in a master class on DATA-journalism from Roman Kulchynskyi, executive director of the analytical NGO «Data Journalism Agency» and editor-in-chief Texty.org.ua.

In addition, the participants visited the editorial office of the newspaper «Denik N», where co-founder, journalist, editor Jan Moláček presented a journalistic project and, together with Petra Procházková, told about the specifics of working in conditions of war in Ukraine.

Interesting was the experience of the public broadcaster «Česká televize», which was shared by the programme director of all news and socio-political programmes Zdeněk Šámal. Also, a journalist of the editorial office of the daily business publication «Hospodarski novyny» Ondřej Soukup and Oleksa Livinskyi, a journalist, former editor of the Czech magazine for Ukrainians «Porohy», communicated with the project participants.

“It is worth noting that various aspects of the coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian war in the information space, the lives of Ukrainians and the fate of Ukraine are the very questions that Czech journalists are also looking for answers to” emphasized Tetiana Kovalova.

Lecturers of #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy keep the educational front, and whenever possible they try to replenish their experience with new knowledge in order to share with students later.
