On September 30th, translators around the world celebrate their professional holiday. Representatives of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU also celebrate International Translation Day since the Department of Germanic Philology is growing a new generation of future foreign languages connoisseurs.

Ph.D. in Philology, Professor, Head of the Department of Germanic Philology Iryna Kobyakova says that annually on September 30th, we induct the first-year students into the profession. Traditionally, graduates come to the university to share their experiences with students and congratulate lecturers on the holiday.

Choosing the right profession means finding your path in life. Only being passionate about the job can you gain full-on mastery. A second-year student Anastasiia Dediukhina says that English plays an essential role in her life. Being a translator is a calling. The profession helps to find oneself and gives plenty of opportunities.

A Master's student Anzhelika Shumylo says that there is a myth that knowing a foreign language is enough for becoming a translator. However, not every English learner can become an interpreter, just like not every Ukrainian speaker can be a writer.

– Besides the proficiency in a foreign language, you have to be fluent in your native one. Some special knowledge and skills acquired during long-term practice are also needed, - points out Anzhelika.

First-year philologist Daria Nahorna only gets into the secrets of the profession. Still, she already knows exactly what she wants to achieve:

– The profession interested me with plenty of employment opportunities. Linguistic knowledge opens all borders and enables expanding the social circle.

The Faculty FPSC, SumDU congratulates all translators on the holiday! May your professional path be bright, full of joy and pleasure from work!
