Anna Reshytko, a postgraduate student of specialty “Philology” at the Faculty FPSC, SumDU has won the second place in the All-Ukrainian competition of literary translation for young authors.

The competition is organized annually by the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University named after Volodymyr Vynnychenko. This year the event is devoted to the 100th anniversary of the higher education establishment.

The contestants were offered a choice of two texts: a fragment of an essay by English writer George Orwell "Why I Write" (1946) and a short story by Princess Alexandra Amalia of Bavaria "Der Johannisbeerschmuck" (1873). About 50 participants from all over Ukraine competed for the title of the best translator.

Anna Reshytko chose George Orwell's essay for translation.

- At first I got acquainted with the work, I realized that I could do it, - says the translator. - A further task was not just to translate the work literally, but also to reproduce it with all the subtleties and nuances, to make the text and context clear to the Ukrainian reader, and at the same time to preserve the author's style.

The second place was a pleasant surprise for our postgraduate student, because she had not participated in such competitions before. She says that the quarantine pushed her to check her strength:

- Now, during the pandemic, we rarely go anywhere and generally attend any events. So I decided that even at home I could try to be a part of an interesting event. To my surprise, it turned out quite a good result.

Anna believes that students should participate in such activities because they provide experience and practice. The main thing is to believe in yourself and go to the goal.

#Faculty_FPSC_SumDU congratulates Anna Reshytko on her victory. Indeed, participation in such events is a useful experience that helps not only to diversify the quarantine routine, but also to improve professional skills and gain faith in their own strength.
