Diana Zubar, a student majoring in Journalism at the faculty FPSC of SumDU, received a social scholarship from the Parliament of Ukraine for the year 2021.

The appointment of a scholarship, says Diana, came as a complete surprise, because she just studies, works and develops. There is nothing special in this, because it is – a student life.

What exactly does a student's life of the scholarship holder consist of?

Favorite profession

The decision to go in for journalism came to Diana in the final form, in a few months before registration for the ZNO.

- My relatives wanted me to be a pharmacist and even sent me to the appropriate tutors, - says the girl, - but at the last moment I chose other subjects and defended my position. Now I can't imagine myself anywhere else.

Diana likes to study, she says that she can't even determine which subjects are her favourite, because everything is aimed at developing the skills needed to work as a journalist. The lecturer plays an important role in the interest of the subject. Among her favorite lecturers are Inna Havryliuk, Yuliia Koval, Inna Sypchenko, Tetiana Kovalova, Olha Sydorenko. She says that its extremely pleasant to attend their classes and communicate with them.

Interest in learning also affects the student's grades. Diana is studying «excellently». And yet she believes that for a quality mastery of the profession learning is not enough:

- It seems to me that the university is more about communication skills and the opportunity to find ways to implement their potential. The university provides the basics, but knowledge needs to be improved in various trainings, schools and internships.

So, at any opportunity, Diana tries to improve her journalistic skills: she did an internship at Rivne investigative journalism agency «Fourth Power», was published in the Kyiv edition of «Politychna Crytyka», initially as a part of the «School of Social Reporting» from the GO «Political Criticism» and further - as a freelance journalist, as well as on a freelance basis, she collaborated with Sumy online magazine ZUKR.

Participation in the program «State Creator 2021» became extremely useful for the girl. After the program, the graduates organized their own marathon on media literacy "Pandemic: how not to get lost in the world of information", Diana was responsible for communication with speakers, participated in the moderation and organization of the event.

Science

The scientific component of the educational process is also interesting for Diana. Now she is involved in the implementation of a research project from the National Research Foundation of Ukraine «Specialized system of medical information and personal security in pandemics, crises, other social upheavals: the formation of an effective socio-communication model» led by Doctor of Social Sciences, Associate Professor Volodymyr Sadivnychyi. The research involved Diana and promoted her to write a research paper, «The First Stage of the COVID-19 Pandemic in Journalism: Local Realities», co-authored with her groupmate Anastasiia Diedova. For their research, the girls won the second degree diploma at the All-Ukrainian competition of student research papers.

- In fact, scientific research is a kind of spontaneous adventure that suddenly turned out to be interesting and exciting, - admits Diana. - From the first year I thought that science is not for me at all, and I will never do it. But it so happened that Nastia and I have our second co-study and I really like the process, although it is exhausting. The first thing I thought when we defended our research was, «I want to do some more research». Actually, it's still ahead.

- More than ahead, - said supervisor Volodymyr Sadivnychyi. - It's just a beginning.

Delight

Education, work, internships and trainings, science… and what about free time? Diana says that such a phenomenon as free time does not exist for her. On particularly busy days, the only thing you can afford is to watch cartoons or TV serials on YouTube.

And yet there are things that distract from things and help to relax. The girl enjoys long walks of 12 kilometers, meetings with friends, board games, as well as playing the ukulele and piano. When there was no red quarantine zone, she went to the gym. She loves to read fiction: now she prefers the works of Neil Gaiman and Bill Willingham.

In general, Diana Zubar treats everything she takes with interest and admiration. Probably this is the secret of a good result. Faculty FPSC of SumDU congratulates Diana on the award of a scholarship! Wishes passion and energy for self-realization and reaching new heights.
