Specialty “Journalism” students of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU took part in the All-Ukrainian online olympiad "Fakesmashing". The event was held in a brain-ring format with the support of the news agency "Without Lies".

A team of journalism students of the Faculty FPSC "Veritas" also took part in the first qualifying round. They competed with teams from the Lviv Polytechnic National University, Vasyl’ Stus Donetsk National University, Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics and Ternopil Volodymyr Hnatiuk National Pedagogical University. In total, more than 30 universities take part in the project "Fakesmashing".

The competition was held in five rounds: during each round, the participants answered questions on fact-checking and identifying media manipulation through simulated case studies. At each stage, team “Veritas” demonstrated confidence and stability. As a result, with a difference of 1 point, our students took the second place. The representatives of Lviv Polytechnic got the victory.

The ability to identify fakes is one of the basic for modern media professionals, and our students completely understand that.

- Today the cannon of disinformation and fakes is sneaking around almost at every step, - said the captain of team "Veritas" Valeriia Barykina. - That's why "Fakesmashing" is one of the perfect practices for exposing them. My team and I have been working fruitfully for almost a half a year: prepared for the competition, made friends with each other, together with our supervisor shot a cool video-business card.  Everyone in the team is unique. Personally, I am completely satisfied with the result.

The supervisor of the team, the assistant of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU Yuliia Koval noted:

- Students’ participation in such  projects  is an opportunity to improve their knowledge of theory, to "pump up" their fact-checking skills, which is an important component in the work of a journalist. Our students represented the faculty with dignity. I hope that the experience will be useful in their future professional endeavors.

#the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy congratulates the young fact-checkers on a good start and a meaningful result! We wish them not to stop on their way to professional peaks!
