Representatives of the faculty FPSC took part in the student conference "The First Step into Science", which is held annually by the Scientific Society of Students (attendants), PhD students, doctoral students and young researchers of Sumy State University.

This year the form of conference was a little bit changed - work of sections and voting for the winners was held online.

Section E Program "Philology - Communications - Society" had 52 reports and was divided into two days of the conference work (March 18th and 19th). Chairperson of the section - PhD in Philology, Associate Professor of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens, SumDU, Vice Dean for Research of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU Maryna Nabok, Secretary - PhD student, trainee lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology, SumDU Vitaly Stepanov.

First steps in science are always interesting and exciting. The participants were well prepared and in spite of the online form, presented their own refinements with dignity. And, of course, they eagerly waited for the voting results. And the results are the following:

1st place

Olena Zavedenko, a SumDU student, group ZhT-01 (report "Section “Society” online version of the franchise magazine" Marie Claire Ukraine").

2 place

- "The first step to science" is one of the steps to dreams, an opportunity to gain experience, to test myself in front of the audience, not only to convey information, but also to interest listeners, - says the winner, a specialty “Journalism” student Olena Zavedenko. - It was interesting to listen to works of others and to learn something new for me. I would like to note that the competition was serious, as each participant's topic was relevant and interesting. To be honest - I did not expect to win. But frankly - I hoped and tried to prove to myself that I could. I’m very grateful to everyone who voted for my performance.

Karyna Vedmydera, a student of specialty “Philology”, participates in the conference for the second time. This year the girl received the third place. About her participation in the event she tells the following:

- I always prepare in advance, contact lecturers, and collect materials. This is responsible for me: it is necessary to pick up the subject, to check there was no plagiarism. I always feel a great responsibility, because you need to show yourself well and not to let the head down.

Although the main judges at the conference are the participants themselves, a professional opinion of "adult" researchers is of great importance for them.

- Presentations amazed by the originality of ideas, thoughts, and a fresh look at the issues of linguistic and literary criticism, content analysis in the latest and traditional media and consideration of media content creation technologies, - says the chairman of the section Maryna Nabok. - Conference participants also presented their empirical research on gender stereotypes, distance learning and concepts of its implementation, intercultural communication, etc. Thank you all for your participation and congratulations to the winners! I wish you further creative achievements!

Well, the first step is made, further is big science with a lot of interesting researches and discoveries. It is nice when our students develop, grow and achieve success. And the Faculty of FPSC, SumDU is always ready to create conditions for professional and personal growth, help and support, regardless of what step it is.
