The conference «The First Step into Science» is an important event not only for undergraduate students, but also for their research supervisors. Lecturers of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU know very well that each successful report is the result of a well-coordinated team of student and advisor. Therefore, every year with enthusiasm and interest they help young researchers to take their first steps along scientific path.
In 2021, the largest number of students, whose training was conducted by lecturers and postgraduates of the Faculty FPSC, presented their reports in the section «Philology-Communication-Society».
Psychology students conducted research under the supervision of Doctor of Psychology, Associate Professor Hanna Ulunova, PhD in Psychology Nataliia Koliada and Senior Lecturer of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies Volodymyr Pavlenko. The students’ supervisors at the specialty «Social Work» were PhD in Public Administration, Associate Professor Volodymyr Semenov, PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor Olena Kupenko and PhD in Political Sciences, Associate Professor Serhii Korol.
Scientific researches presented by students of the specialty «Journalism» was carried out under the supervision of PhD in Pedagogy, Associate Professor Olha Sydorenko and Assistant of the Department of Journalism and Philology Yuliia Koval, as well as graduate students of the same Department Oksana Hedz, Nataliia Rudenko, Maryna Sadivnycha and Vadym Yarmenko. In addition, Iryna Virchenko, a postgraduate student of the Department, supervised a student of the Machine Building Professional College of Sumy State University.
Most of the works presented by the students of the Department of Germanic Philology were carried out under the supervision of the PhD in Philology, Professor Iryna Kobyakova. PhD in Philology, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Germanic Philology Iryna Ushapovska, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Journalism and Philology Iryna Zhylenko, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies Paraskoviia Sakhno, also became the supervisors of the future translators.
Another scientific work led by Paraskoviia Sakhno, was written by a student of the Medical Institute of SumDU and presented in the section «Current Problems and Prospects for the Development of Modern Medicine».
The foreign students, whose reports were presented in the section «Philology-Communication-Society», were assisted by Candidate of Philological Science, Associate Professor Liudmyla Kulishenko and Lecturer of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens Nataliia Pylypenko-Fritsak.
The most diverse in thematic fields were the reports, which were prepared with the assistance of the lecturers of the Foreign Languages Department. PhD in Pedagogy and Senior Lectures Tetiana Plokhuta and Svitlana Mikhno joined preparing the young conferencier for the section «Philology-Communication-Society». Senior Lecturer Nina Malovana and Lecturer Oksana Nefedchenko, became research supervisors for the students whose reports were presented in the section «Current Problems and Prospects for the Development of Modern Medicine», and Senior Lecturers Tetiana Pochatko and Viktoriia Kurochkina prepared the speakers for the section «Mathematical Sciences. Computer and Information Technologies. Biophysics. Nanotechnology. Technical Physics. Electronics». Seniors Lecturer Oksana Hladchenko, in her turn, took part in the preparation of the speakers of all three sections.
The main tasks of the conference are to create interest in research work among young people and to prepare them for further research activities, participation in the scientific conferences, etc. Therefore, academic advisors do help students to choose an interesting topic, plan the course of the study, work out the structure of the thesis, prepare an interesting report, present the research to the audience, and also to become aware of being a researcher for the first time. The lecturers of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU excelled at all of the tasks they were given.
