The end of 2020 brought the students at the Faculty FPSC of SumDU victory in three competitions at once.
Traditional Language and Literature Competitions named after Taras Shevchenko and Petro Jatsyk have changed their format this year and were held online.
According to what the chairman of the competition committee, the Deputy Head of the Department of Journalism and Philology Olha Sydorenko pointed out, the tasks were formed in such a way as to give students the opportunity to demonstrate their creative capabilities. Several topics were offered for the essays, with which the students coped perfectly. They expounded their thoughts on paper logically and laconically.
According to the tasks of the competition, the participants had to contemplate the quotation of the Ukrainian singer Sviatoslav Vakarchuk: “A man who has no principiums will never be happy… A nation without principiums will never be successful”, deny or confirm the citation of Volodymyr Bazylevskyi: “Firstly, Ukrainian literary fate had to laugh with Kotliarevskyi, show the excessive feelings with Kvitka-Osnovianenko, or finally demonstrate the powerful tragedy of Shevchenko.” And there were six such interesting topics.
According to the results of the first stage of the XI International Language and Literature Competition named after Taras Shevchenko (linguistic level) Anastasiia Ivanchenko has won, Anastasiia Diedova has gained the second place and the third place has been devided among Yevheniia Basarab, Tetiana Pliashnyk and Zoreslava Shedenko. All the girls are studying journalism.
Anastasiia Ivanchenko said that she takes part in the competition every year, since the third form:
— Of course, after entering the university, the favor of the competition has not left me. Last year I got to the regional stage but, unfortunately, I was too ambitious and failed. Now I am very happy to get the first place. I put all my soul and excitements into the essay.
At Petro Jatsyk Language International Competition, the tasks were equally interesting. The participants had to write an essay and confirm or contradict the ideas of Honore de Balzac, Ivan Ohienko, Ivan Svitlychnyi, Cicero.
The winners were Anna Shcherbak (specialty “Philology”), who got the 1st place, Zoreslava Shedenko (specialty “Journalism”) got the 2nd place, Liana Okhrimenko (specialty “Journalism”) got the 3rd place.
— I have not prepared for the tasks in advance, I cannot say that they were very difficult, - says Anna Shcherbak. - I have participated in this competition repetitively at school, so I have not felt a lot of excitement. Honestly, I had won the prize only once before, so I did not expect a high result. Of course, I'm glad!
— We were sure that the winners would worthily represent the university at the II regional and then at the III all-Ukrainian stages of the respective competitions, but in the current conditions of fighting against the coronavirus infection the Ministry of Education and Science canceled all mass events, - shared the head of the competition committee Olha Sydorenko. - However, there are contemplations of showing their creative abilities in future.
Another great pleasure replenished a list of the achievements of #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy. The female students of philology won in the competition of translations of poems from the German language, which was held by the Sumy branch of the Association of Ukrainian Germanists.
The organizers wanted to show the importance of the professions of teacher and translator. Therefore, the participants were faced with the assignment to translate the poem “An meinen Lehrer” by German writer Joachim Ringelnatz into Ukrainian.
The task was not easy, because it was necessary not only to translate the poem correctly, following the rhyme, rhythm and form (so that the stress in the words fell on the second syllable), but also to transfer the emotional state of the author.
Students of specialty “Philology” at the Faculty FPSC of SumDU coped with the task excellently and won all three prizes in the competition: I - Diana Lysenko, II - Mariia Hrinchenko and Daria Ivanova, III - Karina Vedmydera.
— I have not even expected to get the first place, - Diana Lysenko shares her emotions. - When I got to know about the victory, I was very happy. In general, I enjoyed participating in the competition, because I got an interesting experience of translating poetry, which I had not done before. I hope that it is not my last victory, because I am planing to continue participating in the similar literary and translation competitions.
Lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology Anna Zinchenko, Diana Movchan, Maryna Chernyk became mentors-advisers to the students. They emphasize that the translation of poetry is a separate form of art, and a great job is to achieve a full reproduction of the lyrical mood and emotions of the composition.
Indeed, each winner of the competitions have done a great job, first of all it was a job on themselves. Each achievement of students is a consolation and gladness for the family of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU, an indicator that the years of study don’t go in vain and they teach the future professionals to do their job perfectly.
