The Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies of the faculty FPSC, SumDU organized a traditional competition "Social OSCAR". The winners were announced on December 1st on YouTube channel of the specialty "Social work".

The competition was started in 2017. The aim was to consolidate the traditions of social progress, public support and tolerance in Sumy. This event also gives the students of the specialty "Social work" the understanding of the meaning and prestige of this profession, as far as it shows the successful example of its representatives.

This year the competition has changed a bit, not only in terms of the format. While in previous years organizations and institutions were awarded for their daily hard work, progress and innovations, the new feature of 2020 was the awarding of personalities.

The Organizing Committee of the competition included lecturers and students of the specialty "Social work". During the selection of nominees, attention was paid to how people who are engaged in social work meet the challenges of the current situation.

Olena Kupenko, one of the authors of this project, PhD in Pedagogy, member of the Scientific and Methodological Commission of the MES of Ukraine in the field of "Social Work", Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies, explained:

– Choosing the winners of this competition, we, first of all, paid attention to those people who during the pandemic not only continued social work, but also applied new techniques and approaches, widening the horizon for helping people.

Olena Kupenko also noticed that 15 students in two weeks processed a large amount of data from all possible sources on the Internet. Then the working group filtered the information and nominated several competitors. At the final stage, the Organizing Committee of this event had a discussion and selected the champions.

Thus, in the category "Creation of supporting networks" the winners were the founder of "Katipa" Kseniia Hrynyk, the chairman of the board "Svitoch" Borys Kulyk and a professional in social work of the Center for Social Services of Berezivsk community Iryna Ponyrko.

"Social OSCAR" in the category "Consolidation of Society" was awarded to Dmytro Natalukha, head of "NPP Ecostandart", and Oksana Serhienko, head of the Territorial Center for Social Services of Buryn City Council.

Now the organizers are preparing interviews with the nominees for more extensive description of their activities. Later, it is planned to have an online meeting of the winners with the students to share their experience.

– There are a lot of outstanding personalities who work perfectly in the social field. I would like the society to know about them, – summarized Olena Kupenko.

The faculty FPSC of SumDU congratulates the winners and hopes that our graduates will also be among them in the future.
