The Faculty FPSC of SumDU has started a new academic year. However, summer has become not only time for rest, but also a period of gaining new knowledge and useful social activity. Participation in various online events has proven that the desire for development overcomes all obstacles and boundaries.

 In particular, lecturers of the Department of Germanic Philology actively "traveled around the world" in the summer with the help of online technologies.

Thus, the lecturer Nataliia Prykhodko took part in the online translation conference Ukrainian Translation Industry Camp 2020, dedicated to the development of the translation industry in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference was held in Dnipro on July 20-26 and gathered together representatives of 52 countries, including Spain, France, Croatia, the Czech Republic and others. The event was organized by the InText translation campaign.

Senior Lecture of this Department Alla Krasulia received the certificate of successful completion of the professional development program «Teaching Strategies in Virtual Studying». The program was provided in cooperation with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the USA.

Part-time assistant Larysa Hartsunova took part in the All-Ukrainian educational project for lecturers «Teach Me Online», aimed at improving the effectiveness of online teaching. The event was organized by international companies JTI and UGEN. For five days (August 3-7), participants of the training course discussed the managing of lectures and practical classes in Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, preparation of effective presentations, social networking functions, methods of working with interactive quizzes and group activities.

Associate Professor of the Department of Germanic Philology Olha Shumenko successfully completed two e-learning courses of the Her Majesty Government Project (UK) and received certificates from HM Government, Great Britain, London. The project has many years of multi-agency experience and offers a variety of custom training sessions for those who work directly with children, youth and students. The project partners are a wide range of organizations, including Sky News, Anglia TV, BBC Radio, BBC TV and the Daily Mirror.

Representatives of the Department of Journalism and Philology also did not miss the opportunity to join the useful summer activities.

Senior lecturer Nataliia Prokopenko and students of Journalism Anastasiia Diedova, Valeriia Barykina, Vladyslava Kritska took part in the All-Ukrainian Student Festival «Humanity: Mediafest», which was held under the slogan: "COVID-19: new challenges and opportunities for human rights and media in Ukraine ".

The media festival gathered together participants from 21 higher educational institutions of Ukraine. Organizers - Institute of Journalism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, ZMINA Human Rights Center. The festival is initiated by the United Nations Development Program in Ukraine (UNDP) with the financial support of the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Associate Professor of the Department Volodymyr Sadivnychyi joined the commemoration of journalist, patriot, citizen Anatolii Sobolev. The event took place in the village of Popivka and in Konotop. In particular, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi presented a reference publication «Anatolii Sobolev: materials for the bibliographic index», organized by bachelor students majoring in «Journalism» during practical classes.

The representatives of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies also actively spent the summer.

Students of specialty «Social work» Inna Kravchenko and Liza Strelchenko received the title of ambassadors from «CSR Center» leadership program for youth «SDG-Ambassadors», which allowed participating in the events of "Week of leadership potential." In the future, the girls will meet with TOPs of companies, representatives of embassies and international organizations.

In addition, Inna Kravchenko, Liza Strelchenko and Kseniia Kalianova took part in the work of the «Summer School for Future Social Workers and Psychologists» devoted to «Anti-Trafficking» under the guidance of the OSCE Project coordinator in Ukraine.

On August 21, students and lecturers of the Department of PPST in cooperation with the Center for Public Initiatives «Intellect of Sumy» held a flash mob in the city center as a part of the all-Ukrainian campaign «Let's Sing Together» and the project «Women's Voice Has Power 2020». The participants of the vocal studio of SumDU and the dance theatre «Feerie» made a bright and positive event. The action took place in Taras Shevchenko Square and near «Sadko» Fountain, where everyone was able to sing the song "My Ukraine" together.

Not without scientific achievements.

The Research Laboratory of the Department of PPTS «The Center for Social and Humanitarian Aspects of Regional Studies» became one of the winners of the grant program of the International Revival Foundation «Initiative for the Development of Analytical Centers», implemented in partnership with the Open Society Initiative for Europe (OSIFE) and with the financial support of the Swedish Embassy in Ukraine. As a part of the SG53702 project «Institutional Development of the Center for Social and Humanitarian Aspects of Regional Studies of Sumy State University», representatives of the research laboratory Andriana Kostenko, Olena Kupenko, Kristina Sakhno, Mykola Nazarov and Vladyslav Smiianov took part in the strategic planning program in Kiev on August 27-28.

As a result of the participation of Mykola Nazarov and Andrii Lebed, employees of the Center for Regional Security Studies, which operates on the basis of the PPST Department, in scientific and practical seminars in Estonia, an agreement was reached with the International Center for Defense and Security (ICDS) on joint research. As a result, in the summer of 2020, the NATO Center for Public Diplomacy supported a joint grant application by the two centers as a part of the «Science for Peace and Security» project. In April 2021, a 2-day scientific event «Scientific Workshop on Resilience in Northeastern Ukraine» with the participation of 20 foreign and 30 domestic speakers is planned to be held on the base of SumDU.

So #the­_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy! begins a new academic year with new strength and inspiration. The knowledge and experience gained in the summer will be an excellent basis for further implementation of plans and developments.
