What mistakes we make in everyday Ukrainian speech and how to learn to speak correctly told PhD in Philology, associate professor of the Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of SumDU Alla Yarova.

The event entitled "Daily Ukrainian: mistakes we make and ways of their correction" was held on February 28 at SumDU Library. Students, graduate students, lecturers, as well as university staff were invited to participate.

Ukrainian is one of the most melodic languages in the world. But not all Ukrainians know their native language perfectly. Following the introduction of the Law on “Ensuring the Functioning of the Ukrainian Language as a State”, the number of Ukrainian-speaking population increased. As well as interest in learning the usage of words and expressions also did.

During the lecture, Alla Yarova spoke about the basic rules of pronunciation of sounds that distinguish the native, nightingale language from others, the difference between Ukrainian and Russian, loan translation.

«Приймати участь», «самі низькі ціни», «без десяти чотири» are the most common mistakes Ukrainians make while communicating. Mistakes often occur in congratulations. For example, you could say «Доброго ранку» and «Добрий ранок». However, it is not correct to use «Доброго дня», it is better to say «Добрий день» or «Добридень». Alla Yarova advised to use the loanwords less and look for Ukrainian correspondences instead.

And when asked how to say «сУмський» or «сумськИй» about Sumy State University for example, the lecturer answered that once both norms were equally correct because the accents were of different origin. But now the first accent jumps out, so it is correct to pronounce «cумськИй».

The importance of the event is obvious, as not only students and lecturers of #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy must know the rules of the Ukrainian language and be able to apply them, but also all Ukrainians.
