Twenty years ago, namely on March 15th, 2000, in Sumy State University emerged the Faculty that has united several humanitarian departments. That is how the story began, giving us #the_best_faculty_in_the_ galaxy.
It was first called "humanitarian" and specialized in training translators, lawyers and journalists. In 2011, the specialty "Law" was separated and our Faculty was named "The Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications".
Over time, new graduating departments and new specialties emerged. The Faculty FPSC is rapidly developing and confidently pursuing its main goal - to be known, to provide equal education to students, to direct them, to provide opportunities for self-realization, to put bricks in the foundation of the future profession.
The students talk about the special atmosphere that prevails here. It is not in vain that, starting from 2017, the Faculty FPSC has been called #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy.
Today there are 6 departments: Department of Germanic Philology; Department of Journalism and Philology; Foreign Languages Department; Department of Language Training for Foreign Citizens; Department of Psychology, Political Science, and Socio-Cultural Technologies; Department of Philosophy. About 800 students are trained in the fields of philology (Germanic languages and literature), journalism, advertising and public relations, social work, psychology, management of socio-cultural activities.
Teaching staff include 120 persons, 9 of which are doctors of science, more than 60 are candidates. Lecturers of the best faculty in the galaxy are participants in international projects from the OSCE, NATO, International Radiological Research Exchanges, Goethe Institut, TEMPUS, Erasmus Mundus, GISAP, Coursera, TESOL, British Council and others. Students and PhD students participate in annual international and national conferences. International projects such as Work & Travel, German Academic Exchanges DAAD, ZAV, CCUSA, AISEC also collaborate with our students.
The first dean of the faculty Nina Svitaylo shares with her emotions: «We have grown all this into a good university family, as a result of tireless work and lecturers’ patience. As we love our children, so do I love our Faculty. This is my second half of life, my second family. If there were no such lecturers, such students - the Faculty would not be the best. It's been one day - it's been 20 years ...». Nina Svitaylo says that the Faculty lives and develops by creating new specialties, innovative approaches in teaching, participation in various landmark projects, interest of students and lecturers in innovative scientific researches.
The faculty of FPSC is a feature of creativity, pursues dreams, - said the second dean of the Faculty FPSC Larysa Valenkevych. Moreover, students and the Faculty are noted for their indifference, humanity and ability to generate innovative ideas.
Larysa Valenkevych also noted that our Faculty was one of the first in the university to create her own coat of arms, a career video card, as well as bright flags and booklets.
For twenty years of existence at different times the Faculty was headed by Nina Svitaylo, Larysa Valenkevych, Valentyn Vandyshev, Valentyna Opanasiuk, Olena Medvid and Olena Sushkova.
The dean Olena Sushkova tells that the Faculty FPSC is an initiative, dedicated team, the result the work of which is the success of our graduates, the achievement and victory of students and lecturers. The young but experienced Faculty is characterized by creativity and extraordinariness.
The creative bank is constantly replenished with teaching achievements and student victories in various competitions, olympiads and conferences. No charity event at the university can be imagined without our volunteers.
Achieving sports Olympus for the Faculty FPSC representatives is not a problem. Students and staff are winners of championships, cups of Ukraine and international competitions, All-Ukrainian Universities, Olympic Games, European and World Championships.
