The linguistic and cultural studies club “Travel Office” continues putting up to the culture and features of life in different countries. This time students and lectureres of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU had an opportunity to visit Poland and the USA without leaving the lecture room.

On February 18th, a small excursion to poetic Poland took place with the assistance of candidate of technical sciences, associate professor of the Department of Electronics and Computer Technology and teacher of the Latin language - Oleksandr Kobyakov.

In his inspirational story, Oleksandr touched upon the topic of education in Poland, the possibility of learning Polish in courses at the Department of German Philology at SumDU, reminded the historical connection between Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland, because the more knowledgeable translators are in all areas, the more valuable they are for employers.

“Poland is not a foreign country for us”, - says Oleksandr Mykolaiovych. “Both countries have much in common in historical and mental sense”.

Special pleasure the audience received from citing poems of famous Polish poets Adam Mickiewicz and Czesław Miłosz in the Polish language. Oleksandr Mykolaiovych also made perfect personal translations of these poems into Ukrainian and presented them to the audience.

On February 19th, a meeting with a graduate of the specialty "Translation" of SumDU Yuliia Polonska Smith and Smith Manufacturing Company (Jacksonville) manager Seabrook Smith took place.

During the meeting, the guests gave some tips on getting a visa to America, talked about the developed university system, the opportunity to get a job according to your specialty and the peculiarities of life in the "Land of Opportunities"

- When I first came to the US Consulate, I tried to be as honest as possible. And you know what? I haven’t been given a visa! - recalls Yuliia with a smile.

Yuliia emphasized that nowadays the process of getting the visa is much easier than before. But there are some things to keep in mind – such as the knowledge of the Pledge of Allegiance of the United States.

One more topic to be discussed was about foreigners’ adaptation in the new country. Seabrook and Yuliia avouched that language knowledge is not enough. It is nice to have some acquaintances in the USA that will help you to get used to new conditions swiftly.

At the end of the meeting Seabrook assured all visitors, that America is always glad to acclaim brainy students, that clearly acknowledge the difficulty level of studying in the USA and are ready to work laboriously for the good of own successful future.

These are the unusual journeys that students of the #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy go to with “Travel Office”, which is always open for creativity and innovative offerings!
