Yet at the beginning of November flashed a piece of news at Sumy State University that one of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications students received a gratitude for taking part in All-Ukrainian competition of student`s essays ''To be smart is trendy''. However the information about who is that student remained a secret.

For students-journalists, who represent #the_best_faculty_ in_ the_ galaxy, there is no unsolved mysteries and impossible missions, because they are taught to investigate sources meticulously and get to important information. So the searching for a distinguished student, who left her work unsigned, was not that big of a deal: the one who astonished jury with her essay and received a gratitude was a third year student of specialty “Social Work” at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications Kseniia Kalianova.

For the competition ''To be smart is trendy'' Kseniia applied an essay concerning the theme «Ukraine: problems and solutions on the path to European Union integration". In her essay, through the prism of one tragic situation, she showed the problems, the indifference and the irresponsibility of our society.

                – I described something that I can’t yet overcome – a story from my life. About the fire, that happened at the end of the summer in one of Odessa hotels, in which 9 people died. My cousin and my aunt, who were having a vacation there, were among them, – told Kseniia.

"Now Ukraine has a lot of problems and prioritized tasks: joining the EU and cooperation with NATO, returning Autonomous Republic of the Crimea and Donbas, reducing taxes and utility tariffs for the population etc. But as for me there is more significant and painful problem – problem of security", – with those words she began her essay.

Although the student neither got the first place nor the grant for study, her story was not ignored. Media Holding Open Media Group, which is the organizer of the competition, expressed gratitude to the student for her being open-hearted and for her emotions.

According to the rules of the contest the works were judged by 8 criteria disclosure of a specific idea of the essay; the author's vision and reasons for choosing this theme; goal and objectives - expected outcome in general and specific results to be obtained thinking through the topic; reasons for the subject of study; the reliability of the facts, evidence of the topic under study; the analysis is done based on similar categories: reason→ consequence, general→special, form→content, part→whole, constancy→variability; capacity of work performed; self-made conclusions; literacy. Every part is assessed from 1 to 5 points.

                – I’m am not sad about not being a winner. It is an achievement for me that my story was not ignored by others, that it was heard.  But I would like it to be heard by those who influence implementation of elementary rules of safety - specifies Kseniia Kalianova .

The student concluded her essay as follows: “But based on the topic, I still made a conclusion, or more precisely a question-conclusion: How could Ukraine, with modern disappointing realities I described above, even start its path to integration with such high standards that EU is submitting? When even the simplest right - "Human right for life and safety" - is not working. Reality is horrifying.”

When asked why the girl wanted to remain incognito without signing her text, Kseniia replied that there must have been a technical glitch because she had provided all the original data.

A technical glitch or maybe again someone's inattention is not so interesting. The most important thing is that students and teachers of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of Sumy State University are proud of Kseniia Kalianova who was not afraid to be frank in revealing the realities of today.
