On 14 February, the Travel Office of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU hosted an online meeting with Kadine Saraiva de Carvalho, MA in Linguistics and Literature, a doctoral student in the Ph.D. program in Linguistics and Literature at the University of Santa Cruz do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The meeting participants were students, postgraduates, and faculty members. Olena Nazarenko, a lecturer at the Department of Germanic Philology, moderated the event.

Kadine shared several interesting facts about life in Brazil: reverse seasons, Christmas celebrations in summer, and traditional holidays that include dancing and music. She also spoke about Brazilian cuisine.

The guest said that her studies have been an exciting journey for her. While still a student, she immersed herself in the world of linguistics and literature. She was so fascinated by this topic that she decided to continue her research for her master's degree by joining a university research group. As a part of the Sandwich Doctorate program, which was the final stage of her studies, she had the opportunity to live and research in the Netherlands. There, she met the professor whose articles had once inspired her to take this path. Collaborating with researchers worldwide gave Kadine invaluable experience and broadened her horizons.

The meeting was helpful for the participants – representatives of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU, as they had the opportunity not only to learn more about another country and communicate with an interesting guest but also to improve their language skills and get inspiration from a person who has achieved success.
