On February 2-3, on the basis of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-cultural Technologies of the Faculty FPSC of Sumy State University, the first training, "Let's stand together: integrated work with victims of conflict-related sexual violence," took place within the framework of the short-term training program for social workers and psychologists. The event participants were 12 representatives of the Krasnopilska and Bilopilska communities.

Svitlana Piven, associate professor of the department of public health of Sumy State University, certified trainer on the topic "Sexual violence related to war: providing comprehensive assistance to victims" and Natalia Teslyk, associate professor of the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-cultural Technologies, worked with the participants as trainers.

The program of the first day of training included three blocks on the following topics:

  • What are conflict-related sexual violence (CRV), national legislation, and international standards.
  • Assistance to persons affected by SVRC: rights of affected persons.
  • Assistance to persons affected by SVRC: identification and interaction of subjects.

 

Individual and group exercises and work with cases were used to consolidate theoretical knowledge.

The second day of the training was devoted to consideration of the following topics: socio-psychological, victimological features, psychological changes of victims of SVRC, features of communication with victims of the conflict, resourcefulness of the individual as a goal of the social sphere in overcoming the consequences of traumatization.

Also, two speeches by invited speakers were planned as part of the training: on the first day, participants worked with Valentyna Volobuieva, deputy director of the Regional Center for Providing Free Secondary Legal Aid in Sumy Region; on the second day - with Mariia Karch, practical psychologist, psychosocial support volunteer of the Sumy regional organization of Ukrainian Red Cross Society.

The participants were highly active, involved, and motivated, and they identified this training as a source of inspiration for further work, contributing to our common Victory and reconstruction of Ukraine. Regarding wishes, they expressed the need to form a bank of resources in Telegram and the region as a whole, as well as the existence of a single template for documenting the case of SVRC.

"Short-term training program for social workers and psychologists in working with women who have experienced sexual violence" is implemented by the PO "The possibility of your development" - a grantee of the Ukrainian Women's Fund/UWF in cooperation with the department of psychology, political science and socio-cultural technologies of Sumy State University and the Department of Social Protection of the Sumy Population RMA within the framework of the project "Let's stand together." Improvement of the support system victims of conflict-related sexual violence/SVRC," which UWF performs in partnership with the public organization La Strada - Ukraine and Association of Women Lawyers of Ukraine YurFem with the support of the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Government Apparatus Commissioner for Gender Policy and funded by the European Union.
