On January 18, a faculty meeting was held at the FPSC, SumDU, during which the dean, Olena Sushkova, reported on the department's work in the year 2023.

Traditionally, the event started with the awarding of diplomas to the winners of the "Best Teacher as Seen by Students" competition. This year, seven faculty members received diplomas of the first degree, with the awards presented to the winners by Vasyl Karpusha, the rector of SumDU.

Antonina Prokopenko, senior lecturer at the Department of Germanic Philology, has been recognized as the faculty's best scientific and pedagogical worker.

In her report, Olena Sushkova provided a substantive and quite self-critical analysis of specific work indicators of the faculty and presented the key figures.

According to the dean's report for 2023, there has been a growth in the previous year. Across all specialties, 147 students have been enrolled in the first year of the bachelor's.

Enrollment for postgraduate (master's) degree education is consistently increasing. Specifically, this year, four foreign students have been enrolled in the master's program, resulting in a rise in teaching specialized disciplines in English.

A significant achievement of 2023 was the accreditation of the academic programs "Organizational Psychology" and "Political Technologies and Analytics" for the postgraduate (master's) degree. Two certificate programs in journalism have been launched for the master's degree.

The defense of a dissertation for the degree of "Doctor of Sciences" took place, and the establishment of temporary committees for the defense of candidates pursuing the degree of "Doctor of Philosophy" in the specialties of "Journalism" continued.

The educational activities at the faculty are powerful. Lecturers of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU secured two out of four top spots in the "Pedagogical Innovations at SumDU" competition. All projects that participated in the competition have been implemented in practice.

In her report, Olena Sushkova also noted that in 2023, SumDU was ranked for the first time in the field of "Social Sciences" (in the top 501-600) by the Times Higher Education ranking agency. The departments of the Faculty FPSC played a significant role in this. The dean also highlighted successfully implementing the academic direction "Humanities and Arts."

In general, 28 international grant programs have been executed or are being conducted at the faculty, doubling the number from last year. Activity in the execution of individual grants remains fruitful. It is worth noting that all departments of the faculty are currently involved in the execution of industrial contracts for R&D and scientific grants. The Department of Foreign Languages and Linguo Didactics made significant progress this year, winning the competition from the National Research Foundation of Ukraine.

The scientific work with students was also successful, demonstrating the high level of preparation of graduation qualification papers. The experiment involving representatives from various fields in co-supervising qualification papers was positively received.

The FPSC Faculty has boosted student academic mobility and SPP. Virtual remains the primary format of academic mobility, as in previous years. We have indicators of outbound and inbound mobility – the number of international students participating in academic mobility at the Faculty of FPSC of SumDU amounted to 90 individuals.

It's gratifying to note that the faculty has restored its former glory in extracurricular student activities. Throughout the year, a series of exciting events took place, with both students and lecturers of the faculty participating.

Olena Sushkova concluded her speech with plans for the year 2024.

"Let's support each other throughout this year in overcoming obstacles and achieving our most ambitious plans," the dean urged those present at the meeting.

Andriana Kostenko, Svitlana Baranova, Nataliia Tatsenko, and Olha Sydorenko, heads of departments, shared their thoughts on the faculty's achievements in 2023 and their vision for the future. Everyone positively assessed the dean's performance in 2023.

Vasyl Karpusha, the rector of SumDU, shared his wishes for the faculty's future endeavors. He noted:

- The Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications is an essential structural unit within the classical HEI, SumDU!
