The project, prepared and implemented under the mentorship of Valentyna OPANASIUK, associate professor at the Department of Psychology, Political Science and Socio-Cultural Technologies of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, achieved victory in the All-Ukrainian competition of civic action projects, “DemBachennia”.
The competition was organized by the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) and took place in Lviv. Graduates of the course “Democracy: From Theory to Practice” participated in the competition.
In the second round of the competition, 10 project teams from various educational institutions in Ukraine competed. The project team from Sumy State University, consisting of Alona Yaremenko and Daria Lazorenko (ES Medical Institute), won the “Advocacy” nomination and the audience sympathy award with their project on “Emotional Burnout of Medical Workers” under the topic of “Mental Health”.
The certificate of victory was presented to the SumDU team by Professor Hrih Berrouz, the author and developer of the course “Democracy: From Theory to Practice”. Winning the competition allows the project team to receive six months of mentoring and resource support from IFES. The project is planned to be scaled up to five border cities in the Sumy region that are constantly under shelling, where medical workers at local Emergency Medical Centers operate in particularly adverse and stressful conditions.
