Alina Serdiuk, Hlafira Koval, Alona Nikolenko, and Anzhelika Kalchenko, students of the specialty "Philology" at the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, got prize places at the 17th All-Ukrainian Student Translation Competition "Artistic Word in World Culture."
The competition was organized by the Department of Foreign Philology and Translation of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Volodymyr Dahl East Ukrainian National University. A total of 137 students from various parts of the country participated in the creative competition. They competed in six categories, aiming to translate poetic works from English, German, and French into Ukrainian, and vice versa from Ukrainian into English, German, and French.
As a result of the competition, the students from the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, got victories in the following categories:
"Translation of a Poetic Work from English into Ukrainian." 1st place - Alina Serdiuk, 4th year; 2nd place - Hlafira Koval, 4th year (supervised by Senior Lecturer Maryna Chernyk).
"Translation of a Poetic Work from German into Ukrainian." 1st place - Alona Nikolenko, 3rd year (supervised by Senior Lecturer Oksana Brovkina); 2nd place - Anzhelika Kalchenko, 2nd year (supervised by Associate Professor Olesiia Yehorova).
Anzhelika Kalchenko shared her impressions of participating in the competition:
"Artistic translation is what I dream of doing. There are countless ways to convey all the beauty and poetry of the author's words from one language to another without losing the profound meaning of the writer. It may seem like a challenging task, but it brings even more satisfaction from the result. I thank Volodymyr Dahl National University for the opportunity to participate in the competition, and I am also greatly thankful to the lecturers of the Department of GPh, SumDU, who wholeheartedly support their students in their endeavors."
