Lecturers and students of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, took part in an online meeting with Andrii Kulykov, the head of the Commission on Journalistic Ethics.

The event "Wartime Journalism: Professionalism and Responsibility" took place on April 18 within the framework of the project "Improving the quality of training of young journalists in Ukraine" carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

During the meeting, the issues of inconsistency between the professional norms, which specialists in the information field have guided for many years, and the security requirements in Ukraine of the 21st century, the timeliness of information submission, and one's own attitude to the topics of the materials were raised. The speaker emphasized that the main task of the media is to save lives:

- Your message has the potential to affect millions of people, he said. - Therefore, any information that may threaten readers' physical or psychological safety should not be made public.

Andrii Kulykov compared his own ideas about conscious journalists in the war with the works described by the science fiction writer Aizek Azimov. A robot (journalist) has no right to harm a person, must obey his orders and worry about his safety.

The expert paid particular attention to the analysis of the propaganda potential of the aggressor country. During the speech, he illustrated his own statements and reflections with historical and present examples.

At the end of the meeting, the guests could personally talk with the journalist. The questions of the meeting participants related to the selection of information for publication, the balance between security and social demand, professional standards, and the subject matter of wartime publications.

It is nice that during the meeting, Andrii Kulykov also pointed out the high level of training of future media professionals at the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, confirming that #media_world_leads_to_the_universe precisely through the paths of our department. Meeting with a famous journalist became an exciting and valuable experience for the students in learning about various aspects of their chosen specialty.
