Second-year students from the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC, SumDU, and department assistant Maryna Sadivnycha took part in online training in first psychological aid in war conditions.

The meeting took place on March 22 as part of the study of the topic «Work of median person in the conditions of martial law» and was primarily devoted to the psychological aspects of the work of journalists, psychological support of people who have experienced traumatic events, as well as psychological support self-help and prevention of emotional burnout.

Mariia Lytvynenko is a crisis psychologist on the International Organization for Migration (IOM) hotline, a crisis psychotherapist in the Sumy region in the project «Response to emergencies for the population affected by the conflict in Ukraine» invited as a guest to the meeting.

Mrs. Mariia told the meeting participants about the peculiarities and varieties of psychological traumas and provided practical advice on psychological self-help. The speaker drew attention to the fact that we are all currently in a collective traumatic event; after all, there is a war going on in our country, and we all feel it somehow. So we must learn to manage ourselves, calm our brain in time, influence first of all our own state, and then help others.

Online training was exciting and essential for journalists because representatives of this profession often have to communicate with people who have experienced traumatic events. Psychological preparation is a crucial component of the professional skill of a journalist.

«The meeting made it possible to pay attention to important psychological aspects of training journalists. The techniques provided by the trainer were beneficial and new to us; we understood how to work with our emotions and help others», she said future journalist Taisiia Kotliar.

The students of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU are grateful to Mariia Lytvynenko for exciting information on psychological first aid, practical advice, and methods that will be useful to each of them.
