The Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of SumDU has become a partner of two-day intensive "Challenges of the 21 century! How not to lose the war for your own identity?".

Organized by the Center for Initiatives and Civil Society Development "Will and Mind" the intensive was held at Professor M. I. Sytenko Vocational Medical College of Lebedyn on December 22-23. By the way, offline with quarantine restrictions compliance. According to the organizers, everyone is tired of online events with small squares on the monitor screen.

The main purpose of the initiative is to teach citizens of Lebedyn media literacy and critical thinking. This was put into practice, in particular, through the cases "how not to let the media fool yourself?", "how to solve annoying problems sensibly?”, “how to find yourself in the world of globalization?”, “how to set goals and succeed?”, “what is happening in the world of politics and how does it affect us?" etc. This is what became the main thematic theses of the two-day training.

Co-organizer of an educational event, aimed primarily at students and lecturers of

Medical and Pedagogical Colleges, became a Master student majoring in "Journalism", faculty FPSC of SumDU Kateryna Shestak.

The speakers were students and lecturers who represented

#the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy: Doctor of Social Communications, associate professor Volodymyr Sadivnychyi, PhD in Social Communications, associate professor of the department of journalism and philology, SumDU Tetiana Kovalova, a student majoring in Psychology Anna Soldatenko.

The event was opened by an introductory speech and a thematic lecture "Opportunities for development of civic activism in the world of globalization" from the chairman of the Center for Initiatives and Civil Society Development "Will and Mind", political analyst, publicist Roman Voloshyn.

He, particularly, gave a brief overview of important processes taking place in the world; told on liberalism, the history of the European Union, the requirements for candidates for EU membership. Drawing interesting analogies, he formulated the basic theses of political processes: "European union - the European vector of development, European civilization", "People pay much more attention to enemies than to trading partners", "Liberalization. We build bridges, not walls! Freedom! Equality! Brotherhood!" etc. The speaker told the participants about the concept "Globalization" and how not to get lost in "the other" world. The main message of his speech was the position of self-development. And, in fact, with the help of international programs.

By the way, #the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy supports Roman Voloshyn's opinion by: constantly informing students about various international programs, which are not only possible, but also worth taking advantage of!

To support the self-motivation of the participants, Anna Soldatenko, a student majoring in Psychology at the faculty FPSC, conducted a training on "Setting Goal and Working with them." She used several techniques: "Circle of Life", "Secret Wish", "SMART", which helped each participant to analyze their life balance, analyze the real and desired qualities, understand the importance of formulating goals and understand the technique of setting a life goal.

- I think that this format of work is the most appropriate, because new knowledge and skills are acquired through practice, participants interact with each other, there are both group discussion and individual work, - says Anna. – In addition, for me it is an opportunity to reconsider your own views in the course of communication. That is, training is mutual: not only the coach-group, but also the group-coach.

The participants themselves discussed the speaker's training quite violently.

- Anna is a student, as I am, and her achievements are inspiring, there is someone to emulate. It was very important and useful for me to listen to these lectures and I have learned a lot. This was incredible! I hope we will meet again, - Inna Hrytsenko, a third-year student of Medical College of Lebedyn, shares her impressions.

The second day of the intensive seemed no less informative and productive for the participants. Lecturers of the department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty  FPSC, SumDU Volodymyr Sadivnychyi and Tetiana Kovalova taught participants in media literacy and critical thinking theoretically and practically.

"Will I fall for it – won’t I? Will I fall? Or… », that was the title of Volodymyr Sadivnychyi's lecture. He told the participants about the facts and statements in the information messages, the specifics of the perception and dissemination of information. He showed on examples how fake news sometimes becomes top topics in the media and social networks.

So, we as consumers of information do not have our heads messed, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi advised:

 - Always keep information filters on: to question on sensationalism, to pay attention to the source of information, to reject messages where at least the slightest inaccuracy is visible, to be interested in the author's name, etc. And yet - capricious in a youthful way, but in terms of perception of information.

The participants acquired even more practical skills at the second part of the intensive, during the training from Tetiana Kovalova "Social networks: how not to get into the information bubble". As a result of the team exercise, the participants learned what a "fact" is and what its role is in the transmission of messages, learned to recognize fake pages on social networks, and so on. Tetiana Kovalova emphasizes that it is necessary to pay attention to the date of creation of the page, the number and frequency of publications, the number of friends, content, the availability of personal photos or among the other people, etc.

- In the age of information technology, the formation of human consciousness is significantly influenced by the media, but this can be avoided with knowledge and experience. This training became a cool experience for me and a source of rich useful information, for which I thank our speakers and organizers, - shares his opinion the participant of the training, the head of the CO "Public Monitoring of Ukraine" Vladyslav Maksymenko.

In terms of the intensive arrangement, the second day did not pass without a present. For the correct answer to his questions, Volodymyr Sadivnychyi presented the participant with the book "21 Lessons for the 21st Century" by Yuval Noah Harari, which was the logical conclusion of the educational event.

In his turn, the head of the Center for Initiatives and Civil Society Development "Will and Mind" Roman Voloshyn presented certificates to the speakers and co-organizers from the faculty FPSC.

- I hope that cooperation will not be limited to one joint event. We would be happy to have similar corporations in the future. I am very glad that we managed to establish cooperation with the faculty FPSC of SumDU. We really had top-level speakers, recognized experts who know how to interest the audience, which they brilliantly demonstrated, - says Roman Voloshin.

#the_best_faculty_in_the_galaxy wants everyone to be medialiterated, not to fall into the trap of manipulation and fakes. And also to achieve the top-level to demonstrate your knowledge more vividly!
