Olena Sushkova, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of SumDU, reported on the work of the structural subdivision for 2019. The meeting of the faculty staff took place on January 20.
In her speech, the head of the faculty focused on positive trends and challenges, on current issues and successfully settled problems. In particular, she mentioned the student enrollment (which is currently 658 people studying at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications), scientific and pedagogical potential (83 lecturers with academic degrees and academic titles, which is 71%), educational services (six high-ranking specialties), research work, international practices, financial component and extracurricular activities.
To the landmark achievements of the faculty, both the rapporteur and the speakers (department heads: Iryna Kobyakova, Nina Svitailo, Larysa Bidenko, Olena Tkachenko, Ivan Mozghovyi, assistant professors: Tetiana Plokhuta, Olha Sydorenko) unequivocally registered the dissertation defense; stability of quantitative indicators of publications in editions indexed by the international scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science; holding of 7 nationwide conferences and one international – «Between a small village and the whole world: cultural mission of Panteleimon Kulish»; increasing the awareness of the faculty in the Internet environment and social networks; implementation of 75 bachelor projects on request of enterprises and organizations; fulfillment of 4 educational and 2 scientific grants, involving the funding of 6 donor organizations, in the context of large-scale programs and projects of the European Union - Erasmus + KA1, Erasmus + KA2; USAID, IFES, UK Embassies in Ukraine; publication of textbooks and manuals, etc. Also, conducting a number of extracurricular events, in which many local students and the region, residents of the regional center participated in addition to students and faculty.
- Drawbacks? We have them, - the dean Olena Sushkova told for a comment on the website. - Everyone knows about them. Many words were said from the podium about them. The most important thing is that no one has hidden anything, because being true to yourself at first is a considerable step towards improving the situation.
In general, all the details and items of the activity for 2019 will be enclosed in a presentation to all interested parties.
Summarizing announced and heard at the meeting of the staff of the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications, the rector of SumDU, Professor Anatolii Vasyliev emphasized that the principle of student-centrism is the right of the student to choose and discipline, and the lecturer. The student has the right to request quality educational services from higher educational institution. An indication that this component is being properly implemented at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications became the awarding of diplomas to the lecturers-winners of the contest "The Best Lecturer in the Students’ Eyes" (Inna Havryliuk, Antonina Prokopenko, Yuliia Kozyr, Olena Yevtushenko, and Nina Svitailo). In addition, the rector pointed out that competition between the institutions of higher education will be increasing every year, as since now university’s activities indicators affect the level of public funding.
- Sure, we are not perfect, - Anatolii Vasyliev noted, - however the university which is built by us on the periphery, is the leader of Ukrainian education today. So, let's continue our development.
The participants of the faculty staff meeting at the Faculty of Foreign Philology and Social Communications of Sumy State University positively estimated the dean’s work, thanked for the fruitful and diligent work and showed readiness to continue to serve the ideas of general and spiritual processes of human formation.
