A student of the Department of Journalism and Philology of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU Zoreslava Shedenko has won the regional stage of the XX International Contest on Ukrainian Language named after Petro Yatsyk.

The competition is held annually in order to promote the status of the Ukrainian language as an official language, to raise its prestige, to strengthen people’s respect to their language, culture and traditions among the young generation of Ukrainians.

73 students of higher educational institutions of the region, winners of the first stage, became the participants of the regional stage of the Ukrainian language expert’s competition.

- The victory was quite unexpected, - Zoreslava comments on her achievement. - Of course, I was sure that I gave many correct answers, but I did not expect such a result. I took part in the competition in the Ukrainian language named after Petro Yatsyk since the third grade. Several times went to the regional level, but rarely won the prize. I am glad that at the university I was able to improve my knowledge of Ukrainian, so I managed to take the first place.

By the way, this is not Zoreslava Shedenko's first victory in the language competition. Recently, she was recognized as one of the most skilled experts of Taras Shevchenko's works.

We congratulate our winner, as well as her supervisor – PhD in Philology, Lecturer of the Department of Journalism and Philology of SumDU, Nataliia Prokopenko, and we wish them to represent the Faculty FPSC of SumDU at its’ best at the All-Ukrainian stage of the competition.
