Iryna Liashenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguodidactics at the Faculty FPSC of SumDU, attended a two-day training course by Hugh Dellar, a British teacher and author on English language teaching methods.

The event took place on 24-25 February in Lviv and brought together over 200 English teachers from all over Ukraine. The event was jointly organised by TESOL-Ukraine and Lexical Lab and covered topics such as vocabulary, grammar, using textbook exercises and the importance of revision and reuse with a lexical approach.

– “Hugh Dellar is a fantastic speaker, full of charisma, who can captivate the audience with his charming voice and intonations, brilliant humour and a lot of examples from his teaching experience, as well as his professional suggestions, which are real gems for both beginners and advanced EFL professionals. The two days of training were full of absolutely positive emotions, bursts of laughter, eyes fixed on the speaker, hanging on to every word, a sense of calm and victory. Hugh Dellar worked at full capacity, even far beyond the previously established programme, and encouraged all participants to practice obvious result-oriented work,” Iryna Liashenko shared her impressions of the training.

The representative of the Faculty FPSC of SumDU is convinced that the methodology proposed at the training gives the best results in learning, as it is absolutely student-centred and based on the prior mastery of vocabulary, which contributes to the further effective processing of the educational material. In addition, this approach develops oral communication skills and motivates you to communicate more in English.
